The 350 physicians and 100 midlevel practitioners in the Riverside Medical Group, based in Richmond, VA, are extremely busy. So, when the group’s leaders sought a way to improve the continuity of care, they wanted to do it without imposing extra burdens on their clinicians. Phytel has provided the answer. One of the largest and most diverse multispecialty groups in Virginia, Riverside encompasses 132 locations scattered across the Hampton Roads region. The group uses an electronic health record system—which it has had since 1995—to help its physicians communicate with each other, with their hospitals, and with their nearly 500,000 patients. Through a secure, internally developed web portal, Riverside patients can request appointments, prescription renewals and other services online.
